Supported Homework Time

Description

Supported homework time is an option for our hybrid students who need dedicated time to work on their offline/out of class work with access to their instructor for questions or support (especially with executive function or study skills) or just because they work better outside of their home and with someone checking in on them.

Supported Homework Time

In-person class Thursdays with both a morning (3 hour) option or afternoon (2 hour) option with a lunch block available for students doing both morning and afternoon.  Students staying the whole day received discounted pricing.

Registration is for the Fall 2023 semester.

Students should bring all of their homework materials with them.  This includes all of their usual class materials and laptop if needed.  There will be access to a student laptop for intermittent use, but not for use during the entire homework period unless by prior arrangement with the instructor.

Students may not be able to complete all of their assigned homework during these time blocks, however they should be able to complete at least half if not all of their home-assigned work during these blocks.

[rara_toggle title=”What Does Class Time Look Like?” status=”close”]

Consider these time blocks to be a supported study hall.  Students have access to their instructor for questions, clarifications or ideas.  If their classmates are also enrolled in this study block, they may be able to work together with an instructor checking in to be sure they are balancing socializing with productivity.

For students that are struggling with concepts, managing their workload or need some additional ideas or techniques to help with their studies – that will also be provided.

[rara_toggle title=”Parent Considerations” status=”close”]This is a teen-oriented open period which is effectively a study hall for illuminat-ED middle & high school courses with access to their instructor for help with challenges as needed.  Students should come prepared to work with all of their materials.

If you have a child that struggles with unsupervised online access, please contact us before registering to be sure the structure of our class is a good fit for your child.  Although students using technology sit with their screen visible to the instructor, this is for light supervision and the occasional check in more than direct supervision.
